When the Normans pay me reparations for invading my homeland, killing my people and making slaves or refugees of the rest, then I’ll support paying reparations to descendants of slaves. We Celts were oppressed by the Normans who killed our King and stole England from us. My family fled to Scotland and spent the next 500 years as border rievers.
Eventually we returned to England and became tenant farmers in what had once been our Kingdom. Do I hate the Normans? Do I expect reparations from the British Crown? Do I expect them to give England back to the Britons and start speaking Gaelic again? Of course not: all this happened before I was born, so it is history. So too is slavery, and all we are responsible for is the evils we have committed in our own lifetime: lets focus on making good the harm we have done and forget about things that happened long before we are born.
That way lies the Grievance Industry which will bleed the Federal coffers dry while at the same time increasing racial tension and division. Let’s not go there.
