This is called arguing from the extreme, where the tragic accidental shooting of an innocent person is conflated into standard practice, implying that police regularly shoot innocent people. They don’t. And while I support the police, I don’t support them committing crimes. Because they do regularly get attacked by members of the public they are watching for a weapon being drawn. It is only sensible to move slowly with open empty hands when surrendering oneself to the police. They are in adrenaline-fuelled fight or flight mode so it is wise not to make any sudden moves that might be misinterpreted.
