The Russian side of the story is entirely self-serving lies and propaganda. The supposed eastward movement of NATO was entirely caused by Eastern European nations fleeing from Russia to NATO, caused by Russian aggression. Russia wanted Ukraine's agricultural wealth and natural resources, and propaganda aside, they just tried to take them. Theft by invasion: simple as that.
