Rick has a three-point Plan that will work:

  1. secure entry to schools so that shooters can’t just walk in.
  2. background check to include a police record check, and if there are any record of violent behaviour or mental illness: block the sale.
  3. Arm the school teachers.

Make it hard for mentally unstable people to buy a gun legally, but I acknowledge that they’ll just buy illegal ones from the nearest gang.

Make it hard for armed people to access the schools. Someone inside having to buzz them in is a step in the right direction.

In the worst case scenario where the killer has entered the school armed with a gun, allow the teachers to return fire. The only thing that has ever stopped a bad man with a gun is a good man or woman with a gun.

And it would help if the FBI had responded correctly when warned of a mentally unstable person with a gun threatening to carry out a school shooting: “the information provided by the caller should have been assessed as a potential threat to life. The information then should have been forwarded to the FBI Miami Field Office, where appropriate investigative steps would have been taken.

Perhaps Donald Trump is correct, that they were all too busy working on the Russian Collusion case?

At the very least, the FBI officer who took the call then failed to pass on the information should be held partially responsible for the 17 lives lost.

And we can hope the Public Defender Howard Finkelstein fails in his stated goal “to keep the troubled teen off of Florida’s Death Row.”
