President Trump has called for unity and peace, and has blamed both the KKK and the Antifa thugs who went to Charlottesville to fight in the streets.
I’m on the side of the one calling for tolerance of each other’s views, and asking for Antifa, the “Resistance”, KKK and White Supremacists to remember they are all Americans before they are Antifa, the “Resistance”, KKK and White Supremacists. Put down the weapons, stop disrupting each others protests, and tone down the hatred on both sides.
It is a fact that all the signatories of the Declaration of Independence were Slave owners by the way, that’s a historical fact. I don’t think Trump said Washington is no better than General Lee, but he made a valid point: if you start tearing down statues of historical figures, because they had views that are no longer politically correct, where do you stop? You would have to demolish Mt Rushmore!
They should have left General Lee’s statue alone: He is still regarded as a hero in the Southern States. I could also make a fairly good case that the Confederates were the patriotic side protecting the rights of States to rule themselves from the Tyrant Lincoln who set out to enforce Federal power over that of the States. They lost, and now the rights of the States have shrivelled as the Federal Government grows ever-bigger, and more powerful.
If you think Big Government is a good thing, you have that right: it’s a free country. I have the right to voice opinions that you disagree with, too.
The fact that you and so many others get so shrill and antagonistic to those who don’t reflect your views says something about the state of civil discourse today, and none of what it says is good, either.
