Of course racism exists, but until we made up the word “Racism” we didn’t have words to discuss it. The word Racism was invented in the 1930’s to describe what Hitler was proposing for the Aryan race. That is now understood to mean “the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics, abilities, or qualities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.”
So if you say “All Whites are racists!” that is a racist statement in itself.
In Australia we have free Public Schools that are streamed to take only the smartest kids determined by entrance examinations. In effect only those kids who get 95% or better in English, Maths and Science get in. 98% of the kids in the exclusive High Schools are of Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese or Indian ethnic origin, mostly first generation Australians where English is their second language. The 2% of white Australians who get admitted to the same schools stand out as the odd ones.
Does this “prove” that Asians are smarter than Europeans? It has to be that, or else they just work harder: it might be a little of both. Is it racist for a white Australian to think Asians might be smarter than us? I guess so, but no Asian has ever been offended by my saying so. Anyway, these kids are smart, hard working and in the main have a social conscience and enjoy volunteering and working for their community: we are lucky to have them as immigrants.
Australia has a racist history, but now we are very cosmopolitan, with 25% of today’s Australians born overseas. It is hard to stay racist once you have a friend of another race, and Aussie egalitarianism has pretty much replaced racism with tolerance. People of colour in Australia are happy to refer to themselves as “Wogs” because the sting has gone out of the once derogatory term. That is sometimes a shock to politically correct overseas visitors, but it is actually a good thing.
