It would be more accurate to say “Civilization has been arranged so that each man deemed worthy receives a woman to own him, with whom he may have sex whenever she wishes, between building, fighting, destroying and conquering in accordance with the will of whatever ruler happened to be running the show at the time, and in doing so creating a civilisation geared to protect women and children.”

There are cultures where the women are treated as chattels, mostly in Africa and the middle east, where women cannot leave the house without a Male relative to walk behind, wrapped in a Burka, but in the West, this has not been the case for generations, if it ever was.
