“If you only hire white, middle class males, you are probably only hiring people just like you, and are missing out on the diversity of personality types needed to make a better team.”
It is a known issue that managers will tend to respond more positively to people who resemble themselves: it is an unconscious bias, that employers need to watch themselves for. It is reasonable to conclude that “If you only hire white, middle class males”, that probably comes about because you are hiring people just like yourself. You may be hiring people of different “interests, style of working, methodology of thinking, temperament” but it is unlikely, given that they are all white, middle class males, there is clearly a bias towards people like yourself, and it is not unreasonable to expect that bias to extend to people with the same interests, style of working, methodology of thinking, and temperament as yourself too.
You still don’t understand how anyone could come to that conclusion? You cannot conclude with absolute certainty that an employer who only hires white, middle class males is hiring people just like himself, but that’s how the smart money would bet. The alternative explanation is that he is a racist and a sexist, and consciously hires only white, middle class males, which I would like to think is not the case.
