I was hoping for a discussion based on historical facts but this hope died when I read this piece of revision of History: "Truman ... considered Asian people to be inferior to the west. That is the reason he carried out the experiment of the nuclear bombing of Japan, though the imperial Army was already defeated and looking for a face-saving way out to surrender."

You couldn't be more wrong: the fanatical Japanese Imperial Army were fighting for their emperor, and believed that death in battle was the only honourable way to die. They would have fought to the last man. The American casualties in the war in the pacific were 112,000 dead and 250,000 wounded, but the Japanese refusal to surrender meant their casualties were far higher: 1.8 Million dead, and only 90,000 wounded. It was clear that the defeat of Japan by conventional means would only come with millions more deaths on both sides. The Atomic bomb was the only "face-saving way out to surrender".

Historians disagree on how many died at Hiroshima and Nagasaki: estimates vary between 129,000 and 226,000 but it is less than 5% of the deaths which would have occurred in the invasion of Japan. Truman shortened the war by at least a year and saved millions of lives, mostly Japanese lives. After the surrender, the Japanese were treated fairly and helped to rebuild their economy. They are now a friend and ally of the United States.

Far from being disbanded, NATO is growing as formerly neutral countries flock to join it in the face of Russian aggression. The invasion of Ukraine hammered home the reality that Putin's Russia believes that all the former members of the USSR are rightly part of greater Russia. There is a reason why Eastern Europe is so united behind Ukraine's defense: They know what it is like to be a slave state under Russian occupation, as does Ukraine. They will fight like Ukrainians to avoid that fate. NATO is the only Alliance on the planet able to stand against the threats imposed by Russia and China.
