I think that when you say “Socialism” you actually mean “Democracy.” Ancient Greece did invent and practise a limited form of Democracy, although only Aristocrats got a vote, and most people were slaves, owned by the voters.

The Greek Democracy is the direct ancestor of the Democracy practiced in the West today: the Roman Republic was based on the Greek model.

You have every right to be proud of the contribution of the Greek culture to the world of today: Without Greece the civilisation of today would not exist.
